Operation Osprey

"A week later the three eggs hatched. We felt proud that we had managed to save them. Several months later, Roberts was convicted, fined and imprisoned. Henderson was only fined and given a warning. Two of the osprey chicks grew, and fledged, and flew, -the third one didn't make it, as often happens. We hope to see the family again next year."   The main character of this book is Don and Mike. They are best friends ans both of them loves bird watching. They try to save them and make a nest. However, they face trouble.   From the book, I learned there are people who are kind to animals and people who use animals as their return, and I thought I didn't want to be the latter.

Tale of Mystery

"The sudden strength of the guest of wind that entered nearly lifted us off our feet. It was as stormy night, but it was beautiful and terrible at the same time. A whirlwind had apparently collected its force in our vicinity, for there were frequent, violent changes in the direction of the wind. The thickness of the clouds, which were so low that they were pressing upon the towers of the house, did not prevent us from seeing the speed withe which they crashed against each other."              (From The Fall of the House of Usher )      This book has three stories, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Oval Portrait, The Masque of the Read Death.  These are mysteries but horror. I can read a lot of grotesque expression and the illustrations are also ominous. The book's writer is Edgar Allan Poe.   Honestly, I don't like these stories because the stories scares me. So I couldn't enjoy this book.

The Canterville Ghost

"When Mr Hiram B. Otis, the American Minister, bought Canterville Chase, everyone told him he was doing a very foolish thing, as there was no doubt at all that the place was haunted. Indeed, Lord Canterville himself, who was a man of absolute honour, had felt it his duty to mention the fact to Mr Otis, when they came to discuss terms."   The story in this book is a family move to The Canterville, where ghosts live and the ghosts try to scare them, but they aren't scared. However, Virginia, who is a daughter and very kind, listens to what the ghost says. The writer of the story is Oscar Wild.    Ghosts appears in the book, but it is not horror, It is so funny. Even if  you don't like ghosts, you may like the ghost in the book. I don't like ghosts but I feel he is so cute that I like him! The Canterville Ghost, Class Set. Diamonds are Forever

" 'So, what do you want to me to do?' asked Bond.    M looked at his watch. 'You have a meeting with Ronnie Vallance at Scotland Yard in an hour. He's going to put you into the pipeline in the place of the carrier.'    'And then?' said Bond.    'And then you're going to smuggle those diamonds into America,' said M, 'You'er going to be facing the Mafia and their American gangs, James. And you'll be on your own.' "   I thought this book had beautiful story and was written about jewelry at first, but the thought was completely wrong. The story is about smuggling and is suspense. The story made me nervous but it is also interesting.

A Midsummer Night's Dream

"Puck: Through the forest have I gone,            But Athenian found I none            On whose eyes I might approve            This flower's force in stirring love.            Night and silence: who is here?            Weeds of Athens he doth wear:            This is he (mu master said)            Despised the Athenian maid:            And here the maiden sleeping sound,            On the dank and dirty ground."   The original story was written by William Shakespeare and you can read the story more easily thanks to the book I read. This book has both simplified texts and original texts so you can enjoy the story and the rhythm of the original texts.    Through the book, I was moved by the reason why the fairies changed the four lovers' love into hate and their hate into love. I also felt the rhythm of original texts was so beautiful.

A Christmas Carol

イメージ
" "I'm sorry you don't want to celebrate Christmas. But I do. So a Merry Christmas, Uncle!"   "Good afternoon!" said Scrooge.   "And a  Happy New Year!" said his nephew.   "Good afternoon!" said Scrooge again."  This is a famous story. Do you know the story?? This is about a man who hates Christmas. At first, he didn't say, "Merry Christmas.", but thanks to three ghost, his idea about Christmas changes. Why did he hate Christmas?  At first, I thought this book is horror because the illustration is dark and ghosts appeared. But I could realize that the story wasn't horror and made us happy. You can enjoy the story not only by this book but also by movie! We used this book in the third Literature Circle. I'll show you their comments. Miyu In this story, the main character tries to change his mind and become a good person. I thought that part of the story was very good. I also wanted to look at the bad parts o

Daisy Miller

"What happened?" asked Mrs Costello. "I didn't believe that she was honest and innocent," said Winterbourne. "Daisy sent me a message before she died. I didn't understand her words then. But I understand them now. She wanted me to like her, and believe her."   This story is about Daisy Miller and Frederick Winterbourne. Daisy Miller is an Ameriacan woman and she travels Europe from America. On the other hand, Frederick is also American man but he lived in Europe for a long time, so he behaves like European people. Frederick falls in love with her and try to get along with her but his hope doesn't comes true easily.   I thought he is funny because he never gives up her easily even if a lot of people tell him he shouldn't love Daisy and Daisy herself makes a complaint for him. I also learned the differences about the behavior between Europe and America. This book is a little long but interesting. So, please read it! Macmillan Readers Daisy
