A Christmas Carol

" "I'm sorry you don't want to celebrate Christmas. But I do. So a Merry Christmas, Uncle!"
  "Good afternoon!" said Scrooge.
  "And a  Happy New Year!" said his nephew.
  "Good afternoon!" said Scrooge again."
 This is a famous story. Do you know the story?? This is about a man who hates Christmas. At first, he didn't say, "Merry Christmas.", but thanks to three ghost, his idea about Christmas changes. Why did he hate Christmas?

 At first, I thought this book is horror because the illustration is dark and ghosts appeared. But I could realize that the story wasn't horror and made us happy. You can enjoy the story not only by this book but also by movie!

We used this book in the third Literature Circle. I'll show you their comments.
Miyu
In this story, the main character tries to change his mind and become a good person. I thought that part of the story was very good. I also wanted to look at the bad parts of myself and become a better person.

Lesson 3

  Today's lesson is about the effect of native languages. I was surprised that babies get rid of pronunciations which they don't need so we can't speak another languages well. I also think the differences between Japan and other countries in the class. For example, we usually take a lesson so quietly in Japan, but in America, many students tell others their opinions in a class. The culture shock affects learning other languages so we should not only practice to speak other languages but also study other countries' cultures in order to learn other languages.

'Take a look at these,' said Naylor.   He put two photos in front of Munro. Two men. There were names on the photos. One man was dark, Asian maybe. His name was Sam Tajik. The second man looked European - German or Scandinavian. Jonas Beck.   ' Sam Tajik. Jonas Beck,' said Naylor. 'Dangerous men. Terrorists.'   Naylor and Munro looked at photos which two men were reflected in. The two men are terrorists and they faced each other in the photos. Naylor and Munro felt that something bad would happen, so they looked for the two terrorists. What would happend? Could they found the terrorists?

Lesson 5

   Today’s lesson was about the way of studying foreign languages effectively. When teacher said repeating was good way, I remembered the way of studying English in high school. When I was a high school student, I had to take reading test in English class. It was we had to change Japanese into English. Of course it was difficult to do it instantly so I practiced many times at home and I took the test. I practiced it very hard at that time because I didn’t want to take the test again in teachers room if I couldn’t pass the test. However, I think the test was so effective to learn English. I don’t want to take the reading test forever but I should practice translating aloud like this test.
